How to play
- 1
Choose a familiar or clearly marked route that suits the children's age and energy.
- 2
Agree where the children may walk and where everyone meets when somebody stops to explore.
- 3
Let the children take turns leading the way to the next interesting stopping place.
- 4
Pause to listen for sounds, look for tracks or examine shapes and colours.
- 5
Stop for food or a drink before anyone runs low on energy.
- 6
Return by the same path or finish the loop, then share one thing each person remembers.
Variations
- Make a short five-senses walk with one stop for each sense.
- Bring nature bingo and look for the squares without taking the finds home.
- Let older children follow simple trail markers or a map with an adult.
Tip
Keep the pace slow enough for exploring and turn back while everyone still has energy for the return journey.
