- Group size
- 1–2 children
- Place
- Outdoors
- Equipment
- small buckets or containers, berry picker, optional
Duration: 30–90 minutes · Energy level: Calm
How to play
- 1
Choose an open area where an adult knows which berries grow there.
- 2
Show the children which berries to pick and agree that all others will be left alone.
- 3
Give each child a small container that is easy to carry.
- 4
Pick carefully and pause occasionally to see how much you have collected.
- 5
Remove leaves and other debris together before finishing.
- 6
Take the berries home and decide whether to eat, freeze or cook with them.
Variations
- Work towards one shared amount instead of comparing who picks the most.
- Give younger children a cup while an adult carries the main bucket.
- Use some of the berries in a smoothie, porridge or baking after the trip.
Tip
Only let children taste berries that an adult can identify with certainty, and keep the group together within a clear area.
Rules can vary between places. Read how we work with sources, variations and quality checks.
